Tema: Beam Sync & Quartz 2D Extreme
No sé si todos ubican a Chris Pirillo, pero por las dudas, tiene una buena reputación en Internet en lo que respecta a "technology reviews", etc.
Hoy me topé con este video que posteó ayer. Habla de un software para hacer tweaking de Mac OS X, que encontró por ahí (Secrets). Pero lo que en sí me llamó la atención fueron los dos tweaks a los que hace referencia en particular: Beam Sync & Quartz 2D Extreme. Supuestamente, la performance gráfica mejora luego de habilitar/deshabilitar esos features. Busqué en Internet y encontre lo siguiente.
Quartz2DExtreme: Using Quartz2Dextreme nearly all the processing for the desktop gui can be done by the video card. The data throughput required between the computer and the video card is minimised. The high-speed bus for the video cards is used more for the bursts of data - like loading up a graphics image, or video. The video cards themselves can decode some video codecs, again minimizing the transmission over the bus AND minimizing the processing power required in the CPU.
Beam Sync: It is a delay time mode for CPU/GPU/Output syncronization, if you're using a CRT better leave it on but if using LCD's you can turn this off since LCD's don't used Beamsync and can actually slow down GUI Speed. (Viene prendido por defecto).
Bueno, habilité el Quartz2DExtreme y apagué el BeanSync desde el terminal. Por ahora noto una leve diferencia en cuanto a suavidad de movimientos (genie effect, expose, spaces, etc), pero no es una diferencia tan dramática como Chris Pirillo mencionaba.
